Meet the Maker: Mother Culture Yogurt

Y'all. This is my favorite yogurt. And I'm tickled pink to share such a special thing with you. After years of living and traveling in Europe and being a yogurt fanatic in places like the Swiss Alps and coastal Greece, this is the first American made yogurt I love as much as (or more than) those European cultures. Mother Culture makes everything fresh weekly and we're proud to share this yogurt with our community through the weekly Hat & Heart Farm Fresh Box.

Mother Culture creates premium cultured dairy products made from locally sourced grass-fed (cream top!) whole milk mixed with local honey. Michelle and her team take pride both in their roots and in their fresh and innovative take on handcrafted preparation methods that have been around for centuries.

Rich in enzymes and nutrient-rich healthy fats, the incredible texture of Mother Culture Greek yogurts are unparalleled. They stand apart from the crowd by utilizing a slow, low-heat pasteurization technique which allows the milk to maintain its molecular structure and the probiotics to thrive.

When the yogurt is strained through cheesecloth, the result is the familiar, thick Greek-style yogurt. Over the course of 1-2 days, whey drips from this cheesecloth, resulting in a product that is lusciously thick. Mother Culture creamy-rich Greek-style yogurt will have you swooning with just one bite! It makes for a hearty breakfast, snack, or dessert replacement.

Tradition is the idea that fuels the women behind Mother Culture. Traditional foods prepared in a traditional way.

“Traditional” shouldn’t be confused with “conventional” since convention (and convenience) has replaced tradition in the way commercial manufacturers and distributors feed the public. At Mother Culture, they reject convention and make old-world style yogurt!

Traditionally, unrefined, unprocessed milk has been used as a nourishing part of a balanced diet. Conventionally, milk has been stripped of the properties that make it beneficial to us, namely through high-temperature pasteurization and homogenization. With a radical notion that milk should be nourishing, healthful, and pure, Mother Culture begins the process of traditional yogurt making with raw, grass-fed, cream-top milk.

The yogurt shop is lucky enough to have a family owned and operated dairy right down the road! Four E Dairy in Moulton, TX supplies al the certified Grade A raw milk from a mostly Jersey herd who are treated humanely and fed grass. If a cow is sick she is quarantined from the herd to be treated. As a result, no antibiotics or hormones end up in the milk that Four E supplies.

Flavors! We offer Mother Culture Greek Yogurt every week carrying two standby Greek flavors: plain and honey vanilla. The we add special flavors of the week. Michelle makes the yogurt fresh every week so flavors will rotate with the season and ingredient availability.

Flavors throughput the year range among all of these delectable profiles: Luscious Lemon, Maple Pecan, Organic Strawberry, Dark Chocolate, Toasted Coconut, Organic Cherry, Apple Spice, Gingered Pear, Blackberry Lime, Triple Berry, Pumpkin Pie, Blueberry Lemon, Coconut Mango, Peppermint Patty, Spring Peach, Orange Vanilla, Gingerbread, Neapolitan, Cranberry Orange, Mounds of Joy, Pumpkin Cheesecake, Pumpkin Chocolate Cheesecake, Key Lime, Grapefruit, Mango, Red, White and Blueberry Layer, Coffee.

If you would like to get your hands on some of this incredible REAL yogurt you can order it in your Hat & Heart Farm Fresh Box for Friday pick-up. (We'll be launching a shop on the site soon for those of you not on the email list, launching soon!). As with everything we offer, quality and transparency is number one. If you ever have a question on the origins or how something is made from conception to you hands, we invite you to ask. Know that there are real people, families and ingredients in everything we sell.
